How do I uninstall Norton Internet Security programme from my PC?
I am having hp pavilion 703 with Windows XP Home Edition. Initially Norton Internet Security (Symantec Corporation) was installed. Now, its period has expired and I have purchased TREND MICRO PC-cillin Internet Security 2006.
But I could not install it as the Norton Antivirus program interferes. From the Control Panel Add/Remove, I tried to uninstall the Norton program. But it gives error message: “Norton Internet Security uninstallation has failed. Do you want to try to uninstall again”. Then it prompts: Please insert your Norton Internet Security CD to continue. But, I am not having the CD – could not locate it. And the final response: “Unistallation encountered an error and was unable to remove the application”.
Kindly suggest how to proceed.
Regards,
NB Nair.
Go to the Symantec web site and download the uninstal tool from there. N.I.S. is poor at uninstalling – So symantec had to create a tool for it.

try to find the uninstall file to download from the internet … if you didn’t , go to your Program files folder and delete the Northon Antivirus folder.

I had a hell of a job uninstalling Norton. Try their tool, as mentioned by previous answers. If that doesn’t work, then do a search with Explorer to find all the Symantec files & delete them. If any are stubborn & won’t delete (which happened on my PC), download FaceTime X-Cleaner & use the Shredder. Drag & drop files from explorer onto X-Cleaner & it will kill them forever.
Good luck !
